Your mission

We are looking for an (Senior) Software Engineer in the LegalTech space as part of our newly founded Team on Trustworthy AI. The team follows the mission to enable Trustworthy AI at scale by operationalizing the upcoming AI Regulation (focusing on the EU AI Act) and by initiating trust-building activities from a user-perspective. It belongs to the broader area of MLOperations where we work alongside our colleagues on the ML processes, engineering and infrastructure.

As part of your responsibilities, you will develop and deploy (AI/ML-based tools) for operationalizing Trustworthy AI, including the requirements of upcoming AI Regulation. Your key activities will include: 
  • Building deep knowledge about the technical requirements of the AI Act, e.g. for Data Governance, Explainability, Accuracy or Cybersecurity
  • Ideating technical tools, metrics or frameworks for meeting such requirements along the ML lifecycle
  • Collaborating with colleagues in ML processes, engineering, and infrastructure to seamlessly integrate such tools in existing processes
  • Developing such tools using approaches in AI/ML or SW
  • Evaluating and continuously improving new tools with partners of aAI and the Ecosystem
  • Monitoring and maintenance and the handling of feature requests

The role is available as full-time or part-time (from 20h/week).

Your profile

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent
  • +2-3 years of experience in corporate R&D, ideally in the context of AI/ML Development
  • Strong software engineering skills: you write clean and maintainable Python code. Experience with other languages (e.g., Go) is a plus
  • Confident with unit and integration testing
  • Experience with CI/CD (preferably Gitlab CI)
  • Experience with Linux and containerization technologies (Docker and preferably Kubernetes)
  • Solid understanding of EU Regulation (e.g. CE-Marking, GDPR)
  • Excited about the opportunity to drive the Legal-Tech Ecosystem in Europe 
  • Good communication skills and a team player attitude across disciplines
  • Fluent in English
Nice to have
  • Experience with tools for data versioning, experiment tracking, workflow orchestration, and/or model deployment
  • Experience with monitoring frameworks
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Experience in regulated application domains (e.g., finance, healthcare, …)
