Your mission

`We are looking for an instructional designer in our Heilbronn office to help our mission to educate individuals and organizations in the field of AI across Germany and Europe. 
As a member of the Academy team, you will work with all parts of appliedAI to realize our mission “to shape Europe’s innovative power in AI”.

Our AI Academy creates learning and training material centered around key skill shortages in AI across business in Germany and Europe. We employ a variety of educational products, including online only courses, flipped learning courses and hybrid online/live environments. Together with subject matter experts, you will support the building and continuous improvement of our training content, as well as full educational programmes like our AI Student Springboard Programme.


Candidates should have experience in developing educational content for online asynchronous delivery or live synchronous delivery, with state-of-the-art methodologies and instructional technologies. It would be advantageous to have a good understanding of Machine Learning and AI.

  • Engage with subject-matter experts from Engineering, Strategy and Regulation to develop high-quality educational content 
  • Engage with stakeholders and external companies which consume our content, and participate in appliedAI Institute events.
  • Bring your instructional design expertise into the AI Academy domain
  • Design, develop and publish new educational offerings about AI to different target industry sectors.
  • Support the scaling of the appliedAI Institute’s training and educational programmes to Germany and Europe.

Your profile

  • MSc/MA in Education, Instructional Design, AI or other subjects with experience in education
  • Experience designing curriculum for B2B training programs
  • Proven track record of developing successful educational content
  • Proven track record of working with subject-matter experts to develop specialized content
  • A good grasp of concepts and trends in corporate learning and skill development
  • Skilled in authoring and development tools, e.g. Articulate, Camtasia, Figma, etc.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills
  • Team player with a willingness to learn new things
  • Fluent English

It would be advantageous to have:
  • Understanding of the domain of Software Development and/or Machine Learning
  • Experience and interest in conducting trainings
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems
  • Experience with unusual teaching/workshop formats such as hackathons
  • Conversational German


What we offer

- Flexibility to switch between our office space in the innovation Park AI in Heilbronn and work from home.
- Actively shape the role of the appliedAI Institute as a competence center for understanding, analyzing, and communicating AI use cases and innovations across industries and/or driven by emerging technologies
- Analyze and evaluate current and emerging AI use cases and technology in different industries and domains, together with AI strategists and experts of appliedAI and partners.
- Lead activities on developing specific assets such as a cross-industry AI use case library, international AI startup landscape or AI experiences (i.e. demonstrators to showcase AI potentials) aiming for know-how transfer and sharing within the public German and European AI ecosystem.
- Support in creating collaboration and partnerships on developing the above topics and assets with selected AI initiatives world-wide (e.g. AI Sweden, AI Singapore, GPAI), national AI initiatives like appliedAI Initiative or Innovation Park AI, or more general innovation and venture platforms such as UnternehmerTUM.
- Active communication across different channels and formats (e.g. articles and podcasts, workshops and talks on selected conferences)
- Sports membership with Wellpass to access thousands of sports facilities all over Germany (and beyond), as well as online courses.
